Opta’s supercomputer makes surprising Premier League title prediction after Man City pip Arsenal to first

Manchester City have dethroned Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table.

The Gunners had been the leaders for large parts of this campaign, but City’s 1-0 win over Burnley on Wednesday night helped Pep Guardiola’s side take top spot.

Currently, both Arsenal and Manchester City have the same points total and goal difference. The Sky Blues have scored three more goals this season, which is why they are on top.

That shows how tight the margins are, and although Arsenal fans are fearing the worst, Opta think the title is still theirs.

Opta’s supercomputer says Arsenal are still almost twice as likely as Man City to win the Premier League

Manchester City had their easiest fixture on paper against Burnley on Wednesday, and everyone expected them to batter the Clarets.

However, Guardiola’s men only managed a 1-0 win, which means their goal difference is exactly the same as Arsenal’s after 33 games.

City are on top and in the position every fan wants to be in, but it’s far from over for Arsenal.

In fact, Opta’s supercomputer thinks they are still the absolute favourites to win the title despite being second in the table.

It has been revealed that Arsenal have a 66.38 per cent chance of winning the title, with a predicted points tally of 80.75.

City, on the other hand, only have a 33.62 per cent chance – nearly half – and they have been predicted to finish the campaign with 79.17 points.

That should give Arsenal fans a big confidence boost, but what matters is the performance of their players in the final five games of the season.

If they play as well as they did against Manchester City and take their chances, they should be able to win all their remaining Premier League fixtures.

Whether they will do that, however, is a different conversation.

Two injury returns could change Arsenal’s season

If Arsenal had no injuries, they would’ve likely wrapped up the Premier League title by now.

However, Mikel Arteta has had to deal with a lot this season. He hasn’t had a fully fit squad available for any game all campaign.

Against Manchester City, Arsenal’s right side was far from their best. Cristhian Mosquera started at right-back, with Noni Madueke in front of him.

Neither player had a great game, but things could change soon as Bukayo Saka and Jurrien Timber are expected to return from their injuries.

If they hit the ground running after their comebacks, Arsenal have every chance of winning all their games.
