Thomas Partey is reportedly unhappy at Arsenal and is keen to leave the club.

According to Calciomercato, Thomas Partey is unhappy with his place in the pecking order at Arsenal and wants to exit the Emirates Stadium in the upcoming January transfer window.

Juventus and Atletico Madrid are both keen on signing the £200,00-a-week 30-year-old.

As per the aforementioned report, the Ghanaian midfielder is unsettled having lost his starting berth to Declan Rice, and did not appreciate being deployed at right-back by Mikel Arteta in the early weeks of the new Premier League season.

It isn’t surprising if Partey is now seen as a rotation option by Arteta, given the Gunners’ paid a club-record fee of £105 million to sign Rice this summer, and the 24-year-old has made a brilliant start to life at Arsenal.

Arsenal still need Partey

Partey is currently sidelined with injury, but when fully fit it will be hard for him to break back into the Arsenal starting XI if Rice and Ben White maintain their current standards in heart of the midfield and at right-back, respectively.

However, given the number of injuries and fitness issues that the 45-cap Ghana international has had since his arrival at the north London club, a slightly less arduous squad role may be the best thing for Partey at this stage in his career.

Arteta certainly can’t rely on him to be fit to start week in, week out. However, the Spanish coach likely won’t want to lose the player mid-way through the current campaign. Arsenal will have plenty of football to play this season, and Partey, as well as Jorginho and Mohamed Elneny, will get their fair share of minutes.

Unless Partey is truly unhappy at the club and pushing hard for a move away, letting him go in January makes little sense for Arsenal.
