Patrick Vieira and Roy Keane are the face two names that most supporters think of when it comes to the Arsenal and Manchester United rivalry.
The midfield pair had many classic battle both on and off the pitch during the late 90s and early 2000s period where Arsenal and Manchester United went toe to toe every season for the Premier League title.
Vieira blamed Gary Neville for an infamous bust up with Keane before the 2005 clash at Highbury but as well as being great captains, both Vieira and Keane were outstanding footballers.
Other great battles included Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Martin Keown in 2003 and Keown apologised to Van Nistelrooy for clashing with the Dutch striker at Old Trafford. Two great team and a whole host of incredible players have graced the fixture.

Patrick Vieira and Roy Keane picked their combined Arsenal and Manchester United XI
Both Vieira and Keane have played alongside some greats of the game and would have had an almost impossible task picking a combined Arsenal and Manchester United XI.
However, the pair put their brains together for ITV Sport and argued over a number of positions to come up with a team that would rival any other in world football.
Shockingly, there was no place in the side for an Arsenal legend with over 100 goals to his name, Dennis Bergkamp or for the record Premier League winner Ryan Giggs.
The rivals argued over one position in particular, they could not decide between Dennis Irwin and Ashley Cole at left back.

What a current combined Arsenal and Manchester United XI would look like
Whilst they are still both great sides, the rivalry has softened in recent years between the two teams given that both haven’t been competing at the top end of the league in a number of seasons.
The Gunners have progressed well beyond Ruben Amorim’s current side, therefore a current combined XI would a little more heavier in Arsenal’s favour.

Mikel Arteta would be sure to disagree with the omission of skipper Martin Odegaard from the side too, whilst Thomas Partey has also enjoyed his best season in an Arsenal shirt.
It would also be fair to say that Vieira and Keane’s eleven would more than likely have the upper hand over the current crop of stars.
