Paul Gascoigne has revealed that he is a big fan of Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice and has been shocked by how good he has become under Mikel Arteta.

Rice is now one of the Premier League’s best players, and this season under Mikel Arteta, he has taken his game to the next level in the Gunners’ quest for silverware.

If Arsenal and England are to stand any chance of winning trophies in 2026, Rice’s form is likely to dictate their chances.

Now, Gascoigne has been speaking about the England international and has admitted that he was seriously wrong about him.

Paul Gascoigne has admitted that when he first watched Declan Rice, he did not think he was good at all, but now, he is a huge fan of the Arsenal midfielder.

The England legend believes that he is now a main player for the Three Lions, and he cannot believe how well-rounded he has become.

Speaking to SignaturesRUS, Gascoigne said: “Yeah, I like him. At first, I thought he was not very good at all. I thought what he’s done for England and all that, and honestly, I think after that, every time I watch him play, he always wants the ball.

“He’s always winning the ball back. He does so much work for his team, and honestly them couple of goals he scored, I think for England, he’s a main player, he’s solid. He puts so much work into his team, it’s frightening.

“Declan Rice, it’s a funny name, but he’s an outstanding player. I’m quite impressed with him. Some grafter he is as well, he puts in some shift per game.”

Rice, who also shocked Riccardo Calafiori, assisted Kai Havertz’s winner to book Arsenal’s ticket to Wembley for the Carabao Cup final on March 22.

The midfielder is now buzzing for the chance to try and win silverware at Wembley Stadium, adding that the team are really hungry to win.

“This season, we have that extra desire in our belly to go one step further in every competition. To be in the cup final with this club is amazing. We deserve it,” Rice told ITV Football.
