Arsenal and Liverpool will be considered the two favourites to challenge Manchester City for their Premier League crown this summer.

Arsenal will get their Premier League campaign under way at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday against Wolves.

Mikel Arteta’s side need to make a strong start to the new campaign. With their eyes fixed on the aim of winning the title, the Gunners will have to come out of the blocks quickly. Arsenal have some tricky early fixtures to negotiate.

Many will still have Manchester City down as favourites to retain their crown, but the Gunners will believe that they have what it takes to go one better than their second-place finish last time around.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has backed them for the title, and the former striker is not alone in believing that the North London club can win the title race. Ally McCoist has also tipped Arsenal to reign supreme come the end of the campaign.

Whilst Jurgen Klopp is no longer in charge at Anfield, with Arne Slot having replaced the German coach in the dugout, Liverpool will also fancy their chances of mounting a title challenge.

Paul Merson reveals Arsenal and Liverpool fear

Wright’s fellow Arsenal icon, Paul Merson, is less convinced of the Gunners’ title credentials, or at least he feels that they could easily erode.

Writing for Sportskeeda, the former midfielder stated: “Liverpool are a bit like Arsenal – if they keep their players fit, they are major challengers. If they have two or three injuries to deal with, they’ll compete for the top four at best.”

There are certainly a number of key players that Arteta will be desperate to see remain fit throughout the campaign. Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, and William Saliba, for instance, are all so important to Arsenal.

Arsenal injury concerns

As things stand, Arsenal have very few injury issues to contend with. Jurrien Timber returned to training this week, boosting Arteta’s options for this weekend.

Meanwhile, Takehiro Tomiyasu remains sidelined. As does Kieran Tierney, who sustained an injury whilst competing at Euro 2024 with Scotland.
