Arsenal face a huge game against Liverpool on Sunday, and will go into the game with all the pressure on Mikel Arteta’s side.

Liverpool are five points ahead of Arsenal in the Premier League table, and should Arsenal lose, any chance they have at Premier League glory this season will almost certainly vanish.

However, a win for Arsenal will see them close the gap on Jurgen Klopp’s side, and fully announce themselves as serious title contenders heading into the last few months of the season.

Former Gunner Paul Merson has now highlighted that the pressure will be on Arsenal, and has revealed whether or not he believes they can win the title.

Paul Merson makes Arsenal title claim

Speaking on Sky Sports News, Merson claimed that Sunday’s game will be make or break for Arsenal in the title race.

“It comes down to this weekend. They were wasteful in the FA Cup,” he stated.

“If they (Arsenal) lose to Liverpool they’re out of the title race, so for me it all comes down to this weekend.”

Arsenal are level on points with Manchester City, but the Champions have played one game less, and they are still arguably favourites to retain the title.

Sunday’s game at the Emirates is arguably Arsenal’s biggest of the season so far, and a loss would be a killer blow in the race.

The mental defeat of losing to a fellow title contender at home, as well as having an eight-point gap to make up, would be too much for Arteta’s side to recover from.

Arsenal recovered from their slump in form before the winter break to record victories against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest, but Liverpool will be a different test.

This will be the final time Jurgen Klopp faces Arsenal before he departs Liverpool in the summer, and the Gunners have an astonishingly poor record against him. However, Arteta is the only Arsenal manager to beat his Liverpool side, and he would love a repeat of last season’s 3-2 victory at the Emirates in the same fixture.
