Arsenal are earning a lot of praise, and rightly so.
The Gunners are often the most criticised club in the Premier League, and some of the things that pundits like Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher say are difficult to accept.
However, in recent games, Arsenal have been fantastic. They picked up two hugely impressive wins against Newcastle United and Olympiacos in back-to-back games and are suddenly being tipped as the favourites to win both the Premier League and the Champions League.
There are a lot of things Arsenal have done right recently. Paul Merson has raved about one of them.
Paul Merson hails Arsenal’s ‘unbelievable’ squad depth
Arsenal may have the best squad in the Premier League right now.
The Gunners have two top-class players in every single area of the pitch and are now in a position where they can handle injuries without too much trouble.
The addition of eight new players in the summer transfer window has taken Arsenal to a whole new level, and that has increased the competition for places in the first team.
Merson, who used to play in a great squad at Arsenal back in the day, is thoroughly impressed by how ‘quietly’ Arsenal have improved their depth.
He wrote on Sportskeeda ahead of the derby against West Ham: “Does Arteta pick Eberechi Eze or Gabriel Martinelli for this game? I’d always go for Eze because he can break teams down.
“It’s crazy Arsenal have so many options now. I just said I’d go for Eze to partner Bukayo Saka and Viktor Gyokeres in attack, but they can still throw in Martinelli or even Leandro Trossard. When Kai Havertz returns from injury, they have another option who can play in attack and midfield!
“Their squad depth is just ridiculous. Arsenal have quietly assembled an unbelievable squad, and even if they rest a few players this weekend, I expect them to secure a comfortable win.”

Mikel Arteta still has one major headache at Arsenal
After all the injuries at Arsenal last season, Arteta realised that he needed a massive squad, which is why he went all out in the summer.
The Gunners boss now has 25 senior players available at his disposal, and all of them are capable of delivering if called upon.
However, when the whole squad is fit, Arteta will have to find a way to keep everyone happy because there will be players who will not play as much as they would like.
That will not be easy, but we’re sure this is a headache that Arteta will gladly have after what he had to go through in the injury-hit 2024/25 season.
