The January transfer window is officially open, and Arsenal fans are hoping to see their club make a big signing or two.

The Gunners have won four games on the bounce and are unbeaten in all competitions since the first week of November. They haven’t been at their absolute best, but Mikel Arteta’s side are still very difficult to beat.

Arsenal have a lot of work to do if they want to win the Premier League title this season, and many people feel that a new striker in January will make a serious difference.

Paul Merson has now made a suggestion to Arteta and Arsenal.

Paul Merson wants Arsenal to sign Alexander Isak for one reason

Alexander Isak is on almost every Arsenal fan’s wish list for 2025.

The Newcastle United star, who has scored 13 goals already this season including eight in his last six Premier League games, is one of the best strikers in the world.

He has been incredible for the Magpies and his performances have proven that he is good enough to play for most big clubs on the planet.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with Isak for a long time now, and Merson has now urged the Gunners to ‘break the bank’ for the Sweden international. Why? – Because he is the ‘best of the best’ right now.

“If I was Arsenal and I had the money, I’d go out and buy Isak,” Merson told Sky Sports. “I’d break the bank for him. He’s the best of the best, he takes Arsenal to the next level.”

Merson also acknowledged and praised Gabriel Jesus’ revival in form, but he’s still adamant that Isak is a player Arsenal should go all out for.

“I’m looking at the all-round picture, I’m looking at next season as well. I think if we can get hold of Isak who is the best in the business at the moment, I think that would be a massive coup for Arsenal,” he said.

The record fee Newcastle are demanding for Alexander Isak

Newcastle know they have a top-class star in Isak and they have no interest in allowing him to leave in this transfer window.

The Magpies are dreaming of returning to European competition, and Isak, in the form he is in, is absolutely integral to their plans.

That’s why Eddie Howe’s side have decided to slap a humongous price tag on Isak to ‘ward off interest from rival clubs’ like Arsenal.

The Telegraph claim that Newcastle will demand a Premier League record fee of over £150 million for their star Swede.

That will likely make it impossible for Arsenal to get him in the coming weeks.
