Paul Scholes believes that Gabriel Magalhaes has been Arsenal’s best player this season, and he has even outperformed both Declan Rice and Bruno Fernandes.
Rice and Fernandes finished first and second in the FWA Footballer of the Year awards, with the Brazilian defender not even making the top three.
🏆 The Premier League Player of the Season award should be given to ____________
Gabriel has been outstanding for the Gunners this season, and it has been rather strange not to see him mentioned in the running for the Player of the Season awards.
But now, Scholes has been one of the first pundits to give the 28-year-old the credit which he deserves, naming him as the Premier League’s best performer this season.
Paul Scholes says Gabriel Magalhaes has been Arsenal’s best player
Paul Scholes has named Gabriel Magalhaes as Arsenal’s best player this season, ahead of Declan Rice.
Rice has been credited as the driving force behind the Gunners sitting top of the Premier League table; however, it is the defence which has really got them there.
Gabriel has been brilliant at the back for Mikel Arteta’s team, and Scholes has acknowledged that by picking him ahead of Rice and Bruno Fernandes.
Scholes told The Good, The Bad & The Football: “People are saying Declan Rice is a brilliant player, but I don’t think he’s done enough to get Player of the Season.
“I’d have probably gone for Gabriel. I think he’s probably been Arsenal’s best player. I don’t think, even at City, other than Bernardo Silva now and again, that anyone has stood out.”
👀 Fill in the blank: Arsenal are taking _ points from the final two Premier League matches…
The quality of the Premier League has been rather underwhelming this season, and there has not really been a particularly standout performer.
Even the top scorer in Erling Haaland has had a rather underwhelming campaign, but surely if Arsenal win the Premier League, the Player of the Year should head to the Emirates Stadium.
Despite Fernandes winning the FWA Player of the Year award, the Premier League and PFA awards are yet to be handed out.
