Paul Scholes has given Mikel Arteta a pointer on how to win the Premier League with Arsenal.
Having won 11 Premier League titles with Manchester United, the former midfielder is more than qualified to talk on the matter.
That being said, Scholes has some strong opinions about Arsenal, and his latest claim is one of the more debatable examples.
Reacting to Arsenal’s defeat to Aston Villa, Scholes shared his view on the Premier League title race, calling on Arteta to change one thing.

Paul Scholes says Arsenal won’t win the league without winning big games
Gary Neville urged Arsenal not to panic after losing in the last second to Villa on matchday 15.
His former teammate, however, had a far stronger and different take on proceedings, as Scholes shared his views when speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast.
“The thing with Arsenal, Arsenal can’t win a big game,” Scholes said.
“Until they start winning big games, they’ve got no chance of winning the league.”
It was a rather brash statement from the Man United icon, who then followed by naming three occasions that bothered him earlier this season.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 1 | 15 | 10 | 3 | 2 | 28 | 9 | 19 | 33 |
“Who is it? Liverpool, they got beat. City, they could have beat. City were struggling, and they couldn’t beat them at home. Villa, look, they’re a really good team, but they can’t win them games.”
Arteta was slammed after the Manchester City draw for his conservative approach, which did rouse many fans; however, the Gunners bounced back expertly.
In the following game, Arsenal beat Newcastle United 2-1 at St James’ Park, coming from a goal behind, which doesn’t fit Scholes’ narrative.
Scholes’ opinion of Arsenal is missing a lot of context
Pundits have irritated the Arsenal squad this season, and Scholes’ latest claim is one that won’t sit right with Arteta’s side.
Where do you stand on Paul Scholes’ comments, are they fair?
While it’s true to some extent, as wins in big games strengthen a club’s claim to the title, his statement was missing a lot of context.
Aside from the City draw, which was frustrating, each occasion in which Arsenal have dropped points to ‘bigger clubs’ this season holds some valid context.
The Liverpool defeat came as a result of a freak Dominik Szoboszlai goal, and against Chelsea and Aston Villa, both Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba were missing.
Scholes is well within his rights to comment on the title race, but without relevant context, his narrative does not particularly hold up.
