Arsenal have a squad filled with exceptional players.

The Gunners are among the best teams in the world today, and although Mikel Arteta deserves most of the praise for that, his players are the ones who have got him where they are.

Some of them have been so good that fans of other clubs dream of signing them, even though they know deep down that it is never going to happen.

Paul Scholes is one of them, and his dream signing is Arsenal star Declan Rice.

Paul Scholes says his dream target for Manchester United is Arsenal star Declan Rice

Rice is one of the best players in the world.

The England international was already a great midfielder at West Ham, but he has gone to a whole new level over the last few years at Arsenal.

Scholes has often had a go at Rice this season, but deep down, even he knows how good the Gunners’ star really is.

On The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, the Manchester United legend was asked to name the one player he would sign for the Red Devils if he could.

Scholes replied: “I think I would go Declan Rice.

“I know I’ve slagged him off a little bit, but I think we need someone like Rice. I just think they need a proper central midfield player.”

Everyone knows this move is never going to happen, but Scholes thinks no signing is unrealistic for his great old club.

He said: “Everyone is realistic for Man United. Who isn’t realistic to be a Man United manager or player?

“I don’t believe it, though. Anyone is possible.”

In our opinion, Scholes is making no sense at all – there isn’t a world in which Manchester United can sign Rice from Arsenal this summer.

This assessment is similar to when Rio Ferdinand claimed Mikel Arteta would leave Arsenal for the Red Devils.

Everyone knows that’s a ludicrous statement and will not happen.
