Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on lifting the FA Cup as Arsenal captain

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has admitted that lifting the FA Cup as Arsenal captain was one of his biggest dreams, and it came true.

Aubameyang is the last Arsenal captain to lift a trophy for Arsenal, although Martin Odegaard will be looking to correct that this campaign.

Mikel Arteta’s team pulled off a miracle by defeating Manchester City and then Chelsea in the final to lift the cup back in 2020. Following a tough season, Arsenal ended it on a high by lifting the FA Cup.

Speaking about his best moment as a Gunner, Aubameyang said: “I scored two goals, and I was the captain at that moment – so for me, it was one of the best moments of my life because as a player, I think this is the best thing you can dream about.”

An image from that day that will stick with most Arsenal fans is when the striker dropped the cup, and he has now joked about it: “Winning a trophy, you have the cup, even if you drop it in front of everybody,” he added.

“I asked the guy, ‘I have to take everything?’ and he said, ‘Yes’, and the base just went. It was heavy, I couldn’t have this weight in my hands. So I dropped the trophy, but this was the moment.”

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang regrets joining Chelsea

Aubameyang also admitted that joining Chelsea was one of the biggest mistakes he’s ever made as a player.

The striker saw the likes of Olivier Giroud make the switch from the Emirates to Stamford Bridge, and thought he could do the same.

But he quickly realised it was a poor decision, adding: “That was a big mistake going there… At that time, I had a bad moment in Barcelona.

“I had a home break-in, and Barca needed to sell a player, me or Memphis Depay, and the only thing that was on the table was Chelsea. So I said, “OK, for my family, I will move away, even if it’s Chelsea.”

“I was thinking maybe it would be OK, Olivier Giroud went from Arsenal to Chelsea and he had no problems, but for me it was different.”
