One of the many similarities Arsenal legend Arsene Wenger and Mikel Arteta share is an eye for top talent.
The Frenchman signed several incredible players whom nobody had even heard of back in the day, and some of them went on to have immense careers.
Arteta’s eye for talent is excellent as well, having signed and developed multiple top-class players at Arsenal over the years.
Now, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who played under both Wenger and Arteta, has delivered his verdict on one of their former targets.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang compares former Arsenal target Amine Gouiri to Alexandre Lacazette
Amine Gouiri has been a popular name in French football for the better part of the last decade.
A product of the Lyon youth setup, the talented forward came through the ranks at the club and was once viewed as an incredible talent.
In 2017, The Daily Express revealed that Arsene Wenger wanted to sign him for Arsenal after being impressed with his quality.
Then, in 2022, when Gouiri had moved to OGC Nice, Calcio Mercato claimed that Mikel Arteta’s side were interested in signing him.
No move to Arsenal materialised on either occasion, but after a spell at Rennes, Gouiri joined Marseille in January this year.
The Frenchman is now a teammate of former Arsenal captain Aubameyang, and the Gabon star feels that his new strike partner is just like Alexandre Lacazette.
He said, as per Foot Mercato: “He’s someone who’s very strong technically, with great vision. He could even play as a 10.
“He reminds me of Alexandre Lacazette. I sincerely hope that, if we end up playing together, it’ll work as well as with Alex at Arsenal.”
Alexandre Lacazette’s career since leaving Arsenal
Lacazette spent five years at Arsenal and was a very important player for the club.
The Frenchman didn’t quite live up to the hype in the Premier League, but he was a real leader and played a big part in helping the younger players at the club.
After leaving Arsenal, Lacazette rejoined Lyon and played 116 more games over three seasons for them. He scored 72 goals – one more than what he managed in his entire Gunners career.
In the summer of 2025, Lacazette joined Neom in Saudi Arabia. He has scored two goals in four games for them so far.
