Arsenal begin their Carabao Cup campaign with a trip to Port Vale.
The Gunners are obviously the favourites to win the game at Vale Park, but Mikel Arteta and his players will know that they cannot be complacent.
Away games against lower league opposition are always very tricky, and if Arsenal don’t take the clash seriously, they could get punished.
Port Vale, however, know what they’re up against, and they don’t seem too pleased with some news they have heard come out of Arsenal.
Port Vale react to Arsenal’s double injury boost ahead of Carabao Cup clash
Arsenal are one of the best teams in the world.
The Gunners have been fighting for the big trophies in each of the last three seasons, and they are expected to challenge again this term.
The problem for Arteta this campaign, just like the last one, has been injuries.
The North Londoners have lost at least one player to injury in each of their first five Premier League games, which is not ideal at all.
However, for their clash against Manchester City on Sunday, Arsenal welcomed two of their most important players back from injury – Bukayo Saka and William Saliba.
The Englishman played the second half against City, while Saliba started and got through the whole game without any issues.
Before the clash at the Emirates, when Arsenal’s team news showed that Saliba and Saka were back fit, Port Vale frustratedly retweeted the update and wrote: “Sound.”
Mikel Arteta has to rotate his side for Port Vale vs Arsenal
Arsenal were handed a difficult fixture list to kick off the season, and injuries have further complicated things for them.
The Gunners have a tough away trip to Newcastle United on Sunday, so they cannot risk more problems when they face Port Vale.
So we expect Arteta to rotate his side significantly, and there is a chance that neither Saliba nor Saka will start the game at Vale Park.
However, we think at least one of them will get minutes later in the game – that will most likely be Saka, who needs to return to his best after Noni Madueke has been ruled out due to injury.
