Alan Shearer has criticised Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus for one thing he did against Chelsea.
Gabriel Jesus did not have his best game as Arsenal laboured to a 2-2 draw against Chelsea on Saturday.
Like the rest of his teammates, Jesus worked hard in the first half at Stamford Bridge, but nothing really came off for him. Mikel Arteta’s side were well short of their best and couldn’t muster up any real attacking threat.
In the midst of a torrential downpour at Stamford Bridge, the Gunners’ play was far from slick. Their sloppy first half display was summed up in one moment when the ball fell invitingly for Jesus on the edge of the Chelsea area.
Jesus elected to take on the shot first time. The £45 million former Manchester City man sliced his effort so horribly that it would have gone out for a throw-in had Gabriel Martinelli not managed to keep it in play.
Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer was profoundly unimpressed by the Brazilian’s attempt to hit the target. Reviewing the incident on Match of the Day, he said, “Jesus had an effort here. I mean, that’s so bad you just wouldn’t believe it.”

Same old story for Gabriel Jesus
This was not an easy chance by any means, but it was embarrassing quite how badly wrong Jesus got it. He didn’t even need to take the shot on first time at all. There was time for him to take a touch and set himself for a more controlled shot. In a game that was crying out for an Arsenal player to take control and show some composure, the 26-year-old failed to deliver.
There is no doubting Jesus’ raw talent. However, if he is ever to be considered a truly elite striker, he needs to become much more prolific. So far this season, the 63-cap Brazil international has netted just once in the Premier League across six outings.
