Former Chelsea left-back Scott Minto has suggested that Arsenal need Ivan Toney.

As reported by The Mirror, Arsenal are preparing to launch a move to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney in the upcoming January transfer window.

However, Brentford are expected to demand a fee of £60 million for the 27-year-old.

Toney is yet to feature for the Bees this season, as he is currently serving a ban for breaching betting regulations. However, he will be cleared for a return to Premier League action in January.

After so long on the sidelines, it would be a tall order for the £20,000-a-week forward to hit the ground running as soon as he gets back on the pitch.

That being said, if Toney can rediscover his best form quickly, then he is capable of having a huge impact for Arsenal in the second half of the season.

Toney to elevate Arsenal attack

If there is one thing that Mikel Arteta’s squad is currently lacking it is a ruthless finisher to lead the line. Toney is exactly the kind of reliable, predatory goalscorer that is needed at the Emirates Stadium. At his best, the once-capped England international could be the difference between the Gunners’ Premier League title ambitions coming to fruition rather than slipping away.

Scott Minto certainly believes that the north London club would be wise to snap the striker up. Speaking on TalkSport, he said, “anybody, Ivan Toney would improve…He might be that missing link for Arsenal, so that seems the natural fit.”

In Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, Arteta already has two decent strikers at his disposal. The former is brilliantly talented, and brings spark and dynamism to Arsenal’s forward play. Equally, Nketiah is reliably hard-working.

However, Toney could be the man capable of taking the Gunners’ attacking contingent to the next level. If he could live up to that challenge, £60 million for his services in January would be a steal.
