Pundit says £100k-a-week man is ‘not quite good enough’ to play for Arsenal

Former Arsenal ace Stewart Robson has doubts about Eddie Nketiah.

Eddie Nketiah has established himself as a trusted first team regular at Arsenal over the course of the last couple of seasons.

The 24-year-old striker has started seven out of the Gunners’ eight Premier League matches so far this season, as Gabriel Jesus has struggled with a fitness issue, and has weighed in with two goals.

There is no doubting that Nketiah is an admirable professional, always willing to work hard for the team and press relentlessly. He has also improved hugely in recent years, under the guidance of Mikel Arteta.

However, there are doubts about whether or not the Hale End academy graduate is of the standard required to fire the north London club to a Premier League title.

Stewart Robson, who played for Arsenal between 1981 and 1987, certainly has his own concerns about the quality of Nketiah.

Speaking on The Gabs and Juls Show podcast, the 58-year-old ex-midfielder said, “I think you know what you’re going to get with Nketiah and that’s probably not quite good enough.”

“[Folarin] Balogun I probably would’ve kept. We haven’t seen his full potential. Nketiah is always going to be in the minds of Arsenal fans and people who watch him as being a bit off the top that makes Arsenal title winners.”

Arsenal eyeing up a higher level of striker

Arsenal sold Folarin Balogun to Monaco in the recent summer transfer window for a fee of £35 million, off the back of the USA international’s prolific loan spell in France with Reims.

There was never going to be enough space in the Arsenal squad for both Nketiah and Balogun. Ultimately, Arteta opted to keep faith in the once-capped England man.

In truth, neither Balogun or Nketiah are of the elite-level calibre that Arsenal are lacking up front. Transfer links with Victor Osimhen, as reported by Football Transfers, suggest that the Gunners are currently in the market for a truly world class goalscorer.

The arrival of the Napoli man could well spell the end for Nketiah at Arsenal. The £100,000-a-week ace is certainly a player that Arsenal would expect to be able to attract a decent fee for.
