Pundit says he’s already spotted an ‘issue’ that could arise if Arsenal sign Eberechi Eze this summer

Arsenal are desperate to land Eberechi Eze before the transfer deadline.

Andrea Berta has already brought in six new signings at the Emirates this summer but the Crystal Palace man is believed to be the missing piece to Mikel Arteta’s attacking puzzle.

Arsenal are expected to bid for Eze before the September 1st deadline but may also have to rely on player sales in order to complete a deal.

The Gunners lacked creativity in their defeat to Spurs in the recent pre-season friendly and Eze would provide that spark needed. However, one pundit has spotted an issue should the £68m transfer go ahead.

Mikel Arteta told Eberechi Eze would ‘unbalance’ Arsenal attack

Speaking on the latest episode of the Arsenal podcast ‘Latte Firm’, former Gunner Adrian Clarke has revealed his concerns over the potential signing of Eze.

Clarke stated: “I think Eze, Odegaard and Saka behind Gyokeres would be tremendously exciting. He seems like a good pro, he isn’t kicking up a fuss.

“The issue is that we don’t have a rampaging left-back and that would unbalance the team a bit, but many teams play with a lopsided system and it works fine.”

Myles Lewis-Skelly is expected to play at left back for the Gunners this season and likes to come inside into the inverted full back position.

This has often left Gabriel Martinelli isolated out on the left wing, meaning that the majority of Arsenal’s attacks occur down the right flank.

Eze is another player that would naturally drift inside off that left flank and it is something that Arteta needs to consider as he cannot have his team becoming too predictable and easy to defend against.

Arsenal need a traditional winger to provide competition for Gabriel Martinelli

Eze is viewed as a ‘game-changer’ by the Arsenal recruitment team and there is no doubt that he would add an element of excitement to the Gunners’ attack.

However, he is not a natural left winger, someone who will take on their full back and get to the by-line to provide crosses.

That is what Arsenal have been missing from the left flank given Martinelli’s dip in form and Leandro Trossard’s lack of pace.

Whether the Gunners view Eze as someone who will be used more centrally and are still in the market for another left winger remains to be seen, however, it is an issue Arteta and Berta cannot neglect.
