First impressions count in football, and, sadly, Viktor Gyokeres didn’t make the best of impressions on Sunday at Old Trafford for Arsenal.

Indeed, Gyokeres was poor on his Premier League debut, as he failed to register a single shot on target for his new side.

Gyokeres has been criticised after the game, and he does need to step things up if he is to justify his pricetag.

Speaking to Hayters TV, Ray Parlour has been discussing Gyokeres’ debut for Arsenal, and while he says things didn’t go for the striker, he did notice one positive about his performance in that he worked his socks off.

Viktor Gyokeres worked so hard vs Man United

Parlour spoke about Viktor Gyokeres and his Premier League debut.

According to the pundit, Gyokeres didn’t have his best game, but he said that he worked incredibly hard and that’s exactly what you want to see.

“It just didn’t go for him, Gyokeres, up front. But he worked hard though, that’s what you want to see. He worked his socks off, but you can’t always have a great game. It was an old-school result where you just get the job done,” Parlour said.

Viktor Gyokeres’ stats vs Manchester United

Parlour makes a good point about Gyokeres in that he worked very hard vs Manchester United.

The striker couldn’t make much happen, but he did put himself about and try to get something going.

7.7km covered in an hour of football is no easy feat, and while he didn’t have any shots and barely connected with his passes, there were some positives to take away from this match.

If Gyokeres keeps working hard, he will get there eventually, and while this wasn’t the ideal start for the striker, there were signs of life.

There’s no reason why Gyokeres can’t become a star at Arsenal if he continues to work this hard, but we may have to put this debut down as just one of those days.
