Real Madrid’s transfer stance on Arsenal target Aurelien Tchouameni has now come to light.

According to Italian publication Calciomercato, Arsenal are keen on securing the services of Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.

However, 90min have now reported that the La Liga giants have no intention of selling the French midfielder.

This will not come as a huge surprise to many Arsenal fans, as Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that the Gunners are far more likely to sign Martin Zubimendi in the upcoming January transfer window. However, news of Real Madrid’s position on the matter may well be the final nail in the coffin of any hopes that were being harboured of seeing Tchouameni make a shock switch to the Emirates Stadium.

There is no doubting that Tchouameni is a top class player. It is hard to imagine why Real Madrid might ever have countenanced letting the 23-year-old go. Of course, he would have been a brilliant addition to Mikel Arteta’s squad, but it was always going to be a long shot for Arsenal to seal a deal for his signature.

Arsenal must look beyond Aurelien Tchouameni for midfield rebuild

The north London club to need to start seriously considering the future of their midfield. Thomas Partey can no longer be relied upon. Mohamed Elneny and Jorginho are also very much back up options, and are coming towards the end of their careers. As things stand, Declan Rice is the only player who represents the long-term future of Arsenal at the base of midfield.

Clearly, more depth and quality is required in this part of the pitch. Tchouameni would have provided that, but now Arsenal must take their search for extra quality in the middle of park elsewhere. Impressive young loanee Charlie Patino may be hoping that this means that a pathway into the first team squad exists for him.
