Gary Lineker has heaped praise on reported Arsenal transfer target Marc Guehi.

According to TeamTalk, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu have their heart set on bringing Marc Guehi to the Emirates Stadium.

However, journalist Dean Jones, speaking to GiveMeSport, has suggested that the Crystal Palace centre-back could eventually be valued at £100 million.

Whilst the Eagles haven’t yet put an obvious price tag on the 23-year-old, and are undoubtedly desperate to keep him at Selhurst Park for as long as possible, there’s no doubting that the defender wouldn’t come cheap.

Guehi is valued so highly for good reason. He plays with a great deal of maturity, has excellent physical attributes, and is brilliantly assured and competent on the ball.

The seven-cap England international underlined his quality once again with his fine performance for England against Italy on Tuesday evening.

His display even caught the eye of Gary Lineker.

The former striker, who represented the Three Lions on eighty occasions during his playing days, discussed Guehi’s performance on The Rest is Football podcast.

He said, “I thought Marc Guehi, when he came on, was really impressive and authoritative.”

Guehi not top of the list

There is no doubt that Guehi is a top talent. However, it is hard to argue that he is what Arsenal need right now.

The Gunners already have two top-class centre-backs in William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes. That duo have formed an excellent and settled partnership. They are also ably backed up by the likes of Takehiro Tomiyasu, Ben White, Jakub Kiwior, and Jurrien Timber.

Unless there is an unexpected defensive departure, then with whatever transfer funds they have at their disposal, Arteta and Edu would be wiser to invest in other areas of the pitch. As good as Guehi is, his services are less ardently required than those of an elite striker or right winger who can effectively back up Bukayo Saka.
