According to a report from Sky Sports, Arsenal chiefs and Mikel Arteta met for over two-and-a-half hours to discuss the managerial situation at the Emirates.
After weeks of speculation regarding the vacant managerial role, things could have finally taken a positive turn. The report pictured Vinai Venkatesham leaving Arteta’s mansion at 1:20 am following yesterday’s game.
Arteta’s Manchester City thrashed Arsenal 3-0 at the Emirates on Sunday to worsen the Gunners’ woes. Many argued as to why the 37-year-old will leave the Etihad to take over a club in such turmoil.
However, a number one job is more attractive to anybody than to stay on as somebody else’s assistant. Arteta is no different and appointing him would be a massive statement by the board. The Spaniard has no managerial experience whatsoever but he seems to be a worthy gamble considering his experience under Guardiola.
Arsenal fans will be hoping that the former skipper will bring a bit of Pep to this deflated Gunners’ side. The players seem to need all the help in the world at the moment and Arteta, a proven Premier League player, could understand their problems better than most others.
More clarity regarding the situation is expected in the coming days. If things go according to plan, Arteta could be Arsenal’s new manager before the next game and it would be extra special for the Spaniard considering that it will be against his former club Everton at Goodison Park.
