Edu Gaspar was hailed as Arsenal’s lord and saviour not too long ago. The Brazilian played a key role in bringing the likes of Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Magalhaes and Thomas Partey to the Emirates, but his job isn’t safe anymore – if a report is to be believed.
Arsenal are in a terrible position in the Premier League at the moment. 14 points after 14 games has pushed us down to 15th in the table. Mikel Arteta is beginning to feel the pressure. But, the Gunners boss has earned the owners’ trust by winning a couple of trophies already.
That, on paper, makes Edu’s position a lot more vulnerable if things don’t improve. Our technical director played a big part in bringing Willian to Arsenal. He has the same agent as his compatriot and that could well have paved the way for a lucrative three-year deal.

Willian has had a shocking start to the season. The former Chelsea man is yet to score for us and only has only one shot on target so far. That is an abysmal record for someone so experienced and his failures push criticism towards Edu, who was the driving force behind the deal to bring him in.
Dutch outlet Voetbal Nieuws claimed over the weekend that Arsenal are looking for ‘fresh blood’ after recent disappointment. Edu is said to be the first in the firing line, and a former Manchester United star is named as his potential successor.
The report claims that Arsenal are considering Edwin van der Sar as Edu’s replacement. The four-time Premier League winner knows the English game very well, and he has done some incredible work as Ajax’s CEO over the last five years.

The Dutchman is a lot more experienced in that role at club level than Edu is. That makes him an ideal option for Arsenal to keep an eye on, but is there any chance that will happen in the near future? We don’t think so.
Arsenal Insider’s view:
Arsenal have gone through more changes over the last 12 months than they in the last 10 or 15 years. Edu has taken on more responsibilities since Raul Sanllehi’s departure, and even though the quality of his work divides opinion, he deserves praise.
The board, at this moment, have no problems with Edu whatsoever. His job is under no threat, and even if things go horribly wrong in the coming weeks and months, it will be Arteta’s who will go first, not the Brazilian.
