According to a report from The Daily Star, Arsenal are eyeing two separate deals for central defenders this month.

Our defensive frailties have been overly evident and if there’s one area that needs strengthening, it’s central defence.

Unavailability of funds after a fairly costly summer window has forced us to look for temporary solutions. The report claims that Arsenal are looking at the possibility of Jerome Boateng on a six-month loan deal this month.

The German World Cup winner will bring in bags of experience and leadership to our backline should he come. However, his fitness is a major concern and the last thing we need is another Denis Suarez situation.

Looking long-term, Arsenal are very keen to pair up William Saliba with his compatriot Dayot Upamecano in the summer. The young Frenchman is one of the best defensive prospects in world football at the moment and the Gunners feel that he would be an ideal partner to Saliba.

A deal for Upamecano is very much a possibility considering that he will have just 12 months left on his deal in the summer. A lot of big clubs will come in for him but if Arsenal can pull it off, it could be one of the signings of the season.

Edu and Raul Sanllehi have a lot of work to do in the next six months. The club has to back Arteta in the transfer window and if they do, we could be in for something really special next season.
