Most Arsenal fans were convinced that Eddie Nketiah would be sold this summer. However, Edu and Mikel Arteta have decided to surprise us by handing the young Englishman a new deal (The Athletic)
Nketiah’s current contract expires at the end of next season. Everyone expected him to be transfer-listed, but it looks like the Gunners have other ideas.
The 22-year-old was once viewed by many as the future of Arsenal. He has been prolific in every age group over the years, but opportunities with the senior squad have been hard to come by this season, especially since the turn of the year.
With Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Gabriel Martinelli all ahead of him, it really doesn’t look like he has a future at Arsenal. However, the Gunners are right to hand him a new deal this summer, just to protect his value.
Arsenal think Eddie Nketiah can emulate Joe Willock
Arsenal reportedly believe that extending Nketiah’s contract and sending him out on loan will be hugely beneficial. Arteta and Edu believe that the young Englishman con have the same kind of impact as Joe Willock did at Newcastle last season.
Willock became a Premier League star in a matter of a few weeks. His transfer value has gone up considerably thanks to record-breaking performances in the final seven games of the season, and the same can happen with Nketiah if he is loaned out.
However, he will have to sign a new deal at Arsenal for the Gunners to even consider a loan offer. If he doesn’t, Edu will have no choice but to sell him for as much money as possible in the coming weeks.
