Arsenal’s problems went from bad to worse last night as we succumbed to yet another defeat in the Premier League. That’s now four consecutive home defeats – something that hadn’t happened since 1959.
The Gunners were on top and it looked only a matter of time before we would break the deadlock. However, Granit Xhaka didn’t seem to like our dominance and decided to get himself a red card after a moment of madness.
The game completely changed after the incident. Burnley used their numerical advantage to brilliant effect, and an unfortunate header from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ended up in the back of our own net.
Arsenal failed to create much after Burnley’s goal and went on to lose the game. Fans, predictably, were furious with the result, with some of them even claiming that players aren’t playing for their manager anymore.
Well, an exclusive from Football London has backed that theory. The report claims that Arteta and David Luiz have fallen out and the duo haven’t talked directly to each other for a few weeks now.
Is Arteta losing the dressing room?
Both Arsenal and Luiz’s team have ‘strongly denied’ the report, but could it be true? Dani Ceballos also claimed on Twitter that his altercation behind the scenes was ‘fake’, but Arteta all but confirmed that it happened in his press conference that week. (Sky Sports)
It does make you wonder if there are real problems behind the scenes between the players and the manager. Luiz is someone who Arteta has been a huge fan of. The Arsenal boss went above and beyond to convince him to stay at the club earlier this year – much to the annoyance of a few fans.
Arteta labelled Luiz as ‘phenomenal’ after his performance against Manchester City in the semi-final of the FA Cup last season. (Goal) He has been one of the Arsenal boss’ first names on the team sheet when he is fit, but things could really have changed.
Results clearly aren’t going our way in the Premier League. The tactics don’t look great and the performances aren’t any different. If a rift really is the reason behind our poor form, it is absolutely unacceptable. Both Arteta and Luiz are experienced professionals and they need to sort their problems out ASAP.
