According to a report from The Mirror, Arsenal are forcing skipper Laurent Koscielny to train with the youth side despite the first team’s return to London after a fairly successful pre-season tour in the United States.
Koscielny refused to travel with the squad for pre-season after Arsenal didn’t agree to his demands of terminating his contract. The Frenchman still has one year left on his current deal at the Emirates. However, he reportedly demanded the club to allow him to leave for free to return to France.
Koscielny, who has been a true professional since joining Arsenal, has seriously dented his legacy here with his recent behaviour. With Arsenal standing firm with their decision, the saga could continue until the end of the transfer window.
Arsenal, on the other hand, could have handled the issue behind closed doors but the club have no obligation to allow a player under a contract to leave for free.
Koscielny has most likely played his final game for the Gunners but Arsenal’s reported refusal to allow him to train with the first team shows just how serious the issue is. His decision to abandon the squad could come back to haunt him and deny him the chance of returning home.
