According to a report from Goal, Arsenal organised a behind-closed-doors friendly against Reading during the international break. Unai Emery was keen to give game time to a few players and five first-team stars featured at London Colney.
Mesut Ozil, Hector Bellerin, Kieran Tierney, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Shkodran Mustafi played in the 2-2 draw against the Royal Blues.
Ozil has been frozen out of the squad and Arsenal fans will be hoping that his performance will change Emery’s mind. Bellerin, Holding and Tierney also got important minutes which is vital considering our defensive woes.
Maitland-Niles will back from suspension against Sheffield United while Mustafi has staked a huge claim to return to the Premier League team after three commanding performances against Frankfurt, Nottingham Forest and Standard Liege.
One player who didn’t make the cut was Alexandre Lacazette. The Frenchman has been out of action for six weeks with an ankle problem and the report reveals that Emery did not want to risk him against Reading in the friendly.
Lacazette has returned to full training this week and he might even make the squad for the game on Monday. That will certainly ease the pressure off Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang whose goals have been heavily relied upon since the Frenchman’s injury.
