Aston Villa have annoyed a number of Arsenal supporters over the last few weeks with their audacious attempts to sign Emile Smith Rowe.
The Villans already beat us to the signature of Emiliano Buendia earlier in this transfer window. That frustrated a few Gooners, but their attempts to sign one of our finest young talents is just a bit too much in many people’s eyes.
Villa shocked everyone with a £25 million bid for Smith Rowe last month. Many even thought that they tabled an offer just to annoy Arsenal, but it looks like they really are serious, and it’s thanks to some encouragement from Smith Rowe’s representatives.
Emile Smith Rowe ‘blown away’ by Aston Villa interest
Birmingham Live reveal that Villa’s sporting director, Johan Lange, has been encouraged by talks with Smith Rowe’s agents. They’ve also boldly claimed that the young Englishman is ‘blown away’ by the Villans’ interest in him, which really is hard to believe.
Villa have already failed with two bids for Smith Rowe, but the report claims that they are undeterred. They are set to come back in with an improved offer, but Arsenal are reportedly confident that the youngster will pen a new deal soon.
At the end of the day, it will be Smith Rowe’s decision. If he tells Arsenal that he wants to leave, we will have to cash in on him this summer to prevent him from running his contract down to just one year. If he wants to stay, Villa stand no chance whatsoever.
The Insider’s View:
Smith Rowe still has two years left on his contract and Arsenal are desperate to extend his current deal. Talks have been going on for months now, but an agreement is yet to be reached, and for some reason, it seems like the agent is playing games with the Gunners.
A representative’s job is to get his client the best possible deal and Smith Rowe’s agent is clearly doing that. He has reportedly encouraged Villa to make a move for him as he knows very well that it’ll put Arsenal under pressure.
Like it or not, that’s the world we live in today and Arsenal will have to cave to get this deal done. Edu will have to meet Smith Rowe’s demands to keep hold of him this summer, if not, things could get real ugly in the coming weeks.
