According to a report from Calcio Mercato, Italian giants AC Milan and Inter are interested in signing Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
The 22-year-old rose to fame under Arsene Wenger and was a regular under Unai Emery as well. However, he has been missing in recent games and Europe’s big boys are now lurking around as a result.
Maitland-Niles started each of Arsenal’s first five league games under Mikel Arteta. However, he hasn’t played a single minute in the league since and has only featured for three minutes in other competitions.
Antonio Conte’s Inter are on the lookout for a right-winger while their city rivals are in need of a right-back. Maitland-Niles is capable of playing in both positions as well as in central midfield and on the opposite flank.
A player so versatile is hugely valuable for any team and more clubs are likely to come in for him. However, Wenger claimed back in 2017 that he is the future of our club (Arsenal.com) and there is no reason why that should change now.
Speaking about Maitland-Niles’ future, Arteta told The Metro: “Ainsley needs to put his head down and work hard and show me every day in training that he wants it more than anyone else, he wants to play for this club and fight for his place.”
The youngster has shown signs of being too casual on the pitch before which has led to unnecessary errors. However, his quality cannot be questioned. If he can sort himself out, he will turn out to be a fine player for us in the future.
