Senior Arsenal players are demanding one big change from Mikel Arteta next month, according to a report from The Telegraph.
The Gunners finally ended their winless run in the Premier League after a fantastic performance against Chelsea. Arteta was a happy man after the game but the real test for the Arsenal boss starts now.
The next five weeks will have a huge say on the Spaniard’s future at the Emirates. The upcoming January transfer window is arguably our most important one in the history of our club. Edu and Arteta are desperate to sign a new creator and the duo seem confident of getting a deal done.
However, many at the club want Arteta to do something that he will not want to at the end of the window next month – bring Mesut Ozil back into the Premier League and the Europa League squads.
The report claims that the German’s omission is the biggest reason why there is a division behind the scenes. Ozil has full support from all the senior players in the squad who feel that the former Real Madrid man can help turn this disastrous season around.
The report also reveals that Ozil’s attitude and performances in training have impressed the senior players. Arteta now has a big call to make to appease a number of Arsenal’s senior stars, but it is highly unlikely he will change his mind.
Arsenal Insider’s view:
Ozil has divided opinion at Arsenal since the day he arrived. Some fans still back Arteta’s decision to leave him out while others, like the senior players at the club, are demanding that he is reinstated for the second half of the season.
Arteta has been adamant that his treatment of Ozil is fully based on footballing reasons. That is very hard to believe considering how little we have created in the Premier League this season, but the Arsenal boss has no plans of changing his mind.
His focus is to bring in a new attacking midfielder in next month’s window. Edu is working really hard to get a deal over the line and if he succeeds in doing that, Ozil’s hopes of getting back into the squad will disappear – irrespective of what the senior players think about it.
