Arsenal have started the new season with back-to-back defeats in the Premier League, and calls to sack Mikel Arteta are increasing by the minute on social media.

The Gunners were woeful against Brentford on the opening day and we deserved nothing from that game. Although our performance improved considerably against Chelsea on Sunday, it still wasn’t good enough to get the three points.

That’s now zero points from two games for Arsenal and that’s not a good look at all. Arteta is under serious pressure now, but is his job really under threat after our worst start to a league season in history?

A small yet very loud section of the Arsenal fan base have been calling for Arteta’s head. Some pundits have also jumped on the bandwagon by claiming that Spaniard is not the right one to take the club forward.

After a season as bad as the last one and a terrible start to this one, Arteta doesn’t really have a leg to stand on. However, The Mirror claims that the Kroenkes and everyone on the Arsenal board are determined to carry on backing the Gunners boss despite the current situation.

Even Fabrizio Romano has backed that claim. Arteta’s job is under no threat whatsoever at the moment, and that really is good news despite our wretched start to the campaign.

The Insider’s View:

If Arteta is to be judged by results and results only, nobody can really make a case for him. However, the circumstances surrounding our football club over the last 18 months show that almost any manager in the world would’ve struggled.

Even since the start of this season, Arteta has had no luck at all. He has been without as many as nine first-team players, 10 if you include Lucas Torreira. That’s just way too many casualties for any manager to deal with in the middle of a rebuild.

Arteta really does deserve time to turn things around. Yes, he will make mistakes, but he really loves Arsenal and wants to get us back to where we belong, and he deserves a fair opportunity to do that this season.
