Eurosport have revealed what sources close to Martin Odegaard have told them about the Norwegian’s future beyond the end of this season.
The 23-year-old joined Arsenal on loan from Real Madrid in January. He became an instant fan-favourite at the Emirates, and Arsenal supporters would love nothing more than to see Mikel Arteta sign him on a permanent deal this summer.
The report claims that Odegaard still believes that he has the traits to succeed at Real Madrid. He is hopeful to be given an opportunity there next season and he will reportedly be ‘heartbroken’ if the Galacticos force him out this summer.
Arsenal are trying to snap him up this summer but it will not be easy. A lot will depend on where we finish at the end of this season.
If we drop out of Europe completely, our chances of signing Odegaard will be close to zero, but if we can win the Europa League, we should consider ourselves as the favourites for his signature.
A lot will depend on what Odegaard wants as well. Does he believe in Arteta’s project? Is he comfortable at Arsenal? Does he think that the current Gunners squad is good enough?
What Martin Odegaard thinks of Arteta and Arsenal
The report claims that Odegaard really likes Arteta’s vision for Arsenal. He truly believes that the Gunners can go very far under the Spaniard, but he has concerns over the beliefs of his current teammates.
The Norwegian is reportedly not convinced yet that the Arsenal squad is fully behind their manager’s plan to take the club forward. That has cast doubts in Odegaard’s head and he is keeping his options open as a result.
The report also claims that Odegaard would love the prospect of staying close by to his compatriot Erling Haaland – who is guaranteed to end up at a top club in the upcoming summer transfer window.
A lot can still happen by the end of this season but it is worrying to read reports about Odegaard’s concerns about his teammates. Hopefully, that changes in the coming months and he will be open to joining Arsenal on a permanent deal.
