It’s only been a few weeks since Arsenal completed the signing of Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid on loan until the end of the season. However, there has already been a lot of talk over his permanent future.
Sport claimed recently that Odegaard would happily stay at Arsenal if Zinedine Zidane remained at the helm in Madrid. Multiple outlets backed that claim and revealed that the Gunners would be interested in signing him permanently too.
Odegaard himself recently addressed his long-term future.
He told TV2: “You never know what is going to happen, but for now I am just focusing on doing my best this season and helping the team as much as possible”
That interview has apparently angered Real Madrid. Defensa Central claim that the Galacticos are ‘pissed off’ by Odegaard’s comments as they feel that he is an important part of their future.
Real want him to refrain from interviews concerning his permanent future. They only want him to focus on the present at Arsenal and return to the Spanish capital once his loan deal expires.
Arsenal Inisder’s view:
It will be interesting to see how this pans out in the summer. Arsenal definitely will need a number 10 for next season. Signing Odegaard will solve that issue, but it now looks like Real Madrid will not entertain a sale.
However, Odegaard’s relationship with Zidane has turned sour. He has reportedly told the Galacticos that he will not play under the Frenchman again, which would open up an opportunity for Arsenal.
A lot will depend on how things go in the next few months. If Odegaard fares brilliantly, we will surely go all out to sign him, but Real will make it extremely difficult for us – even if they don’t want to keep him.
