Riccardo Calafiori injury update emerges before Arsenal face Bolton in EFL Cup clash

Riccardo Calafiori was one of a few Arsenal players who weren’t able to complete the 90 minutes against Manchester City on Sunday.

Leandro Trossard bowed out early for Arsenal, even if his exit wasn’t because of injury, rather owing to his poor decision-making.

But both Jurrien Timber and Calafiori needed to be replaced by Jakub Kiwior and then Myles Lewis-Skelly.

The duo put in an unbelievable shift in Arsenal’s rearguard display, but couldn’t quite see out the full game after going down and requesting a sub on the Etihad turf.

Of course, it would therefore be a surprise if either featured against Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup, at least as a starter.

Mikel Arteta shared an Arsenal injury update ahead of Bolton, but didn’t go into specifics on either defender.

Riccardo Calafiori spotted in Arsenal training after injury scare

That being said, there has now been a clear indicator that Calafiori is fit ahead of Bolton’s visit to the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal are expected to make several changes against Bolton, partly because of the fatigue of some of the players mentioned.

But judging by a training video Arsenal uploaded on their website, it would appear that Calafiori has survived unscathed after coming off against City.

The Italian could be seen in a rondo with the likes of Gabriel Jesus, William Saliba and Gabriel Martinelli – a positive sign for the Gunners.

Ben White played through an injury on Sunday, meaning it would surely be very unlikely that he plays any part on Wednesday evening.

Perhaps someone like Josh Nichols from the Hale End Academy could be set for a surprise start.

16-year-old Jack Porter will start in goal for Arsenal, a sign that Arteta won’t push any of his senior players to be ready if it’s in the balance.

Arsenal told they’re not title favourites after Rodri ACL injury

Of course on the subject of injuries, it’s now confirmed that Man City midfielder Rodri has suffered an ACL issue.

Rodri is expected to miss the majority of the season because of the injury, a devastating blow for a player who deserves to win the Ballon d’Or for his displays last season.

That being said, Paul Merson has made a surprising Arsenal U-turn when it came to his Premier League prediction after hearing news of Rodri’s injury.

Arsenal are missing Martin Odegaard themselves right now, but the Norwegian should be back well before his Man City counterpart.

That being said, Fabio Vieira is still yet to play a single minute at Porto this season, a situation that is hardly ideal for Arsenal.
