Rio Ferdinand has blasted Mikel Arteta’s lack of experience in terms of winning titles and thinks that is ultimately what is costing Arsenal right now.
The Gunners had a terrible weekend, beaten by Bournemouth, and have now lost three of their last four matches in all competitions.
Discuss Mikel Arteta’s future if Arsenal do NOT win the Premier League
Arsenal remain six points clear of Manchester City; however, Pep Guardiola’s side face them next week and have a game in hand.
Following the huge defeat to Bournemouth and ahead of a decisive week in the Premier League title race, Ferdinand has been discussing his stance on Arteta.
Rio Ferdinand on Mikel Arteta’s inexperience of winning at Arsenal
Rio Ferdinand thinks that Mikel Arteta’s inexperience of winning at Arsenal is really what the Spanish coach is missing right now.
The former Manchester United star recalls how Sir Alex Ferguson was always so calm, unlike Arteta at Arsenal.
He claims that Sir Alex’s calmness always stemmed from his experience, and with Arteta, he just does not have that same level.
Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents, the former defender said: “I just remember Sir Alex was calm, and again, that’s experience, and that’s what Arteta hasn’t got.
“Arteta hasn’t got that experience of understanding these moments, and was Sir Alex Ferguson crazy and loud in the early parts of his career? Maybe so.
“But I’m saying when I was there at this time, I just remember calmness, like, ‘Guys, just keep getting into the dangerous areas and keep putting them under pressure’.
👀 Who should be Arsenal’s manager at the start of next season: Mikel Arteta or Cesc Fabregas?
“There was no outlandish, crazy recipe. It was like, ‘Just get the ball forward into good areas. Trust yourselves, you’re great players. Chances come, be clinical’.
“The other thing is, ‘Don’t come off the pitch with any regrets’. It’s simple stuff, man. It isn’t rocket science and trying to rewrite the rule books and all that stuff.”
Over the next week, Arteta needs to regroup the players and try to lower the heat around the players following another panic-stricken performance against Bournemouth.
Fear just seemed to overtake Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, and it is an issue the 43-year-old must address quickly, or he risks another year without silverware.
