Arsenal are perhaps the biggest club in world football to never win the Champions League.
The Gunners have been an elite club for pretty much their entire history, but they’re yet to taste European glory.
However, according to Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski, speaking to Romario TV, that could soon be set to change.
Indeed, according to the Polish legend, Arsenal and Bayern Munich are the two favourites to win the Champions League this season.
🔮 Which stage of the Champions League will Arsenal reach?
Robert Lewandowski names Arsenal among Champions League favourites
The striker spoke about how this season’s Champions League is going to pan out.
According to Lewandowski, it would be silly to cast Barcelona as favourites at this point due to how young their team is.
The forward said that, instead, Arsenal and Bayern Munich are favourites for the Champions League, while also noting that Liverpool and Manchester City are strong sides.
“I don’t like to talk to speak and say ‘yeah we are favourites’ because it doesn’t make sense,” Lewandowski said.
“You know it’s like we have very young team and if we improve that yeah that will be fine you have also this season very strong teams such as Arsenal or Bayern Munich how they’re playing so they are favourites for sure.
“We don’t have to be because it’s more important if we’re going to win then it’s not important who ‘was’ the favourite for the Champions League.
“I think that the Arsenal, Bayern Munich of course Liverpool is very strong still I think. Manchester City also, it’s one game against Real Madrid, you never know what will happen. All of these big clubs, you can say they’re favourites to win the Champions League.”
Arsenal’s potential run to the Champions League final
Arsenal are among the favourites for the Champions League in the eyes of Robert Lewandowski, and it’s not hard to understand why.
Indeed, not only are the Gunners one of the best teams in the competition, they also have one of the kindest runs possible.
| Round | Arsenal’s potential run to the Champions League final |
| Round of 16 | Bayer Leverkusen |
| Quarter-finals | Bodo/Glimt |
| Semi-finals | Barcelona |
| Final | TBD |
Bayer Leverkusen proved to be a tough test this week, but, realistically, Arsenal should beat them in the home fixture, while after a 3-0 win against Sporting, Bodo/Glimt likely await in the quarter-finals.
If all goes to form, Arsenal will face Barcelona in the semi-finals, and, as Lewandowski alludes to here, Barca aren’t as strong as Arsenal either.
The path is certainly opening up for Arsenal to reach their first Champions League final in 20 years.
