There is always a lot of debate surrounding Mikel Arteta and Arsenal.

The Gunners are one of the best teams in Europe right now, and Arteta is among the top managers on the planet. He has completely transformed the club.

However, people still refuse to give him the credit he deserves because he hasn’t won the Premier League or the Champions League yet.

Arsenal Invincible Robert Pires has now made a controversial claim about Arteta.

Robert Pires says Arsenal will sack Mikel Arteta if he doesn’t win a big trophy this season

Mikel Arteta’s current contract at Arsenal does not expire until 2027.

The Spaniard penned a new three-year deal just over 12 months ago, and he has done a magnificent job at the helm of the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal have finished second in the Premier League three years in a row and also made it into the semi-finals of the Champions League last term.

The aim is to get one step further in both competitions this season, and Arsenal are well-equipped to do so after a tremendous summer transfer window.

However, if they don’t, Pires thinks Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke will sack Arteta.

He told Foot Mercato: “In my opinion, if this year there is no trophy, the management will think about finding another coach.

“Because he has been there for five years, and unfortunately, the title has eluded him. What is important for the fans is the championship. So, today, there is money that was spent on the summer transfer window. There were certain demands coming from him, which were carried out precisely by the Arsenal board.

“If Arsenal are not champions, I think there will definitely be a change on the bench.”

Should Arsenal sack Mikel Arteta if he goes another season without a trophy?

Arteta has the full backing of the board and the majority of Arsenal fans.

The Spaniard is loved in and around the Emirates, and all the players in the squad would run through a brick wall for him.

Not winning any major trophy again this season would be a real shame, but it definitely will not be the end of the world.

Liverpool spent close to half a billion in the summer after becoming the champions. Everyone has tipped them to win the league, so how could Arsenal not going all the way be considered a failure?

We think the Gunners have what it takes to pip Liverpool to the crown, but even if they don’t, sacking Arteta would be a ludicrous decision.

As David Ornstein once said, Arteta would be snapped up within seconds by one of the biggest clubs in the world if he left Arsenal.
