Arsenal are set to face Dutch outfit PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League after avoiding another Eredivisie side in Feyenoord during the draw.

Feyenoord have appointed Robin Van Persie as their new manager after sacking former manager Brian Priske just days before their Champions League play-off tie with AC Milan.

Former Arsenal striker Van Persie now begins his managerial reign with the club he signed from for the Gunners and went on to score 132 goals during his time under Arsene Wenger.

Van Persie left Arsenal under a cloud after signing for bitter rivals Manchester United but Van Persie claims that Arsenal never offered a contract before his departure to Old Trafford.

Robin Van Persie reveals Arsene Wenger message after Feyenoord appointment

Speaking at his press conference after being unveiled as the new Feyenoord manager, Van Persie revealed the message that his former manager Wenger had sent following his appointment.

Van Persie was asked about some of his past managers and explained: “Wenger congratulated me and wished me good luck. I think that’s beautiful.”

The Dutch striker then went on to explain how he sees Wenger as his ‘football Dad’ and clearly showed his respect and admiration for the man who brought his career to life.

The pair won the 2005 FA Cup during their time together in North London before Van Persie made a £24m switch to Alex Ferguson’s United side in 2012.

Van Persie would be dream Arsenal striker now

Many supporters would argue that Arsenal have failed to find a striker to replace Van Persie since his departure from the Emirates Stadium.

The likes of Olivier Giroud and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang enjoyed reasonable success at the Gunners during their spells but never managed to quite hit the heights of the Dutch striker.

In his final season at the club, Van Persie hit 30 Premier League goals to fire his side to a top four finish and the Gunners are now a player of Van Persie’s calibre away from potentially conquering all before them both domestically and in Europe.

It is gearing up to be a huge summer for Mikel Arteta and the recruitment team at Arsenal, how they would love to unearth the next Van Persie moving ahead to the next campaign.
