Robin van Persie and Arsenal fans don’t share a great relationship.

The Dutchman was once adored by Gooners, but after he decided to leave Arsene Wenger and join forces with Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United, he became the enemy.

Van Persie has had a lot to say about Arsenal over the years since his departure, and almost all of it has not gone down well.

But, Van Persie and Arsenal had a common enemy recently, and the former Gunners captain was delighted with what Mikel Arteta’s side managed to do.

Robin van Persie reacts to Arsenal’s 7-1 win over PSV Eindhoven

Arsenal faced PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Fans were a bit skeptical going into the game as the Gunners had dropped points in each of their previous two fixtures – against Nottingham Forest and West Ham United.

Mikel Merino playing up front again increased those concerns, but Arsenal were on another level against PSV and absolutely battered them.

The North Londoners scored seven past the Dutch giants, and Gooners were absolutely delighted with the result and the performance.

Arsenal fans and Arteta weren’t the only ones who enjoyed the 7-1 win, Van Persie loved it too. The Feyenoord boss was pleased to see his rivals PSV get humiliated.

Van Persie said on HaytersTV on Wednesday night: “Wonderful, wonderful! I enjoyed that.”

“Arsenal played very well yesterday,” he added.

Robin van Persie got lucky – Arsenal could’ve humiliated him

Van Persie loved seeing PSV get battered by Arsenal, but it could’ve easily been his Feyenoord side.

The 41-year-old took charge of the Dutch side in February, and there was a chance that his new club could’ve been drawn against Arsenal.

Luckily for him, Arsenal got PSV and Feyenoord drew Inter Milan on the other side of the bracket.

If Arsenal did draw Feyenoord in the Champions League, there’s no reason why the Gunners couldn’t have battered Van Persie’s side, who are two places and eight points behind PSV in the Dutch league table.

Instead, Feyenoord faced Inter Milan and lost 2-0 at home, which is a far more respectable scoreline than PSV’s 7-1 defeat.

Van Persie should consider himself lucky that he did not go up against Arteta’s Arsenal.
