Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane has given his verdict on Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.
Much has been made of the way Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal players celebrate goals and victories.
Arteta is an extremely animated figure on the touchline, and constantly barks instructions, gesticulates wildly, and leaves his technical area during matches. At times his energy has an infectious quality and fuels the atmosphere in the Emirates Stadium. In other instances his mannerisms can feel like an unwelcome distraction.
Roy Keane certainly isn’t a fan of the Spanish coach’s antics. Speaking on The Overlap, the ex-Manchester United captain said, “Arteta does a lot of things I don’t like. But obviously he’s doing a good job there. But sometimes you do look at the staff and you go, ‘that is over the top, that is over the top’. I think the manager can [celebrate] but when there are 28 staff hugging each other, the bus driver and the chef are joining. You’re like, ‘hold on a second, it’s 2-1’.”

Arsenal will own their passion
Arsenal won’t mind the criticism of their manager, neither will Arteta himself. The club and coaching staff can use this attitude to foster an ‘us against them’ mentality in the first team dressing room.
Their celebrations also show the passion and unity that exists in the group, both amongst the players and the staff.
However, Arteta needs to ensure his side aren’t too emotionally led this season. In previous campaigns a lack of experience and maturity has arguably cost them dearly, no more so than last season when the Gunners stumbled during the run in and lost out to Manchester City in the Premier League title race.
Arsenal have a young squad, and they will come under intense pressure and be tested at times this season. This time around they also have to deal with the weight of expectation upon them after they impressed so much last season. Whether Arteta, and his mannerisms, are especially helpful to the players in helping them deal with these stresses and pressures is open to debate.
