Santi Cazorla has made an unexpected Man of the Match call for Arsenal vs PSG.
The former Arsenal midfielder, speaking on the Champions League’s official TikTok channel, was asked to name his standout performer for tonight’s final in Budapest.
His pick: Leandro Trossard.
Trossard won’t be a popular pick for Man of the Match in a Champions League final, but the Belgian has been in fine form during Arsenal’s run-in.
It’s Champions League final day, simple question: How are you feeling?
He scored the crucial winner at West Ham that put the Gunners on course for the Premier League title, and his importance to Mikel Arteta’s side has grown significantly this season.
But in a final of this magnitude against PSG, with the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Bukayo Saka, and Declan Rice on the pitch, it’s fair to say Trossard isn’t the obvious pick for the award.
That said, Cazorla knows a thing or two about what makes an Arsenal player tick — especially in finals.
The Spaniard spent six years at the Emirates and is one of the most beloved players in the club’s recent history.
Of course, Cazorla played a crucial role in the FA Cup final comeback in 2014, scoring an incredible free-kick in Arsenal’s 3-2 win over Hull City, ending the club’s nine-year wait for a major trophy.
His read of the game was always exceptional, and if he sees something in Trossard tonight, it might be worth taking seriously.
