Arsenal appear to have missed out in the race to sign Marc Guehi as Manchester City look close to getting a deal over the line.
The Gunners were one of a number of clubs in for Guehi but it now looks like the England defender will pen a long-term deal with City.
The fee aside, the big news from the potential deal for Guehi is around his wages.
What changes would you make to our predicted Arsenal XI vs Nottingham Forest?
Reports are suggesting Guehi will earn a whopping £300,000-a-week at The Etihad, putting him on par with most of the very top earners in the Premier League.
As expected, that figures has caused plenty of discussion on social media and Arsenal fans in particular were quick to share their frustration.
Arsenal fans react as Marc Guehi nears £300,000-a-week Man City deal
Earning £300k-a-week is quite something and while you have to applaud Guehi for putting himself in the position to earn such money, it really does show City’s power in the market.
Over on social media, Arsenal fans have been quick to point out how Guehi’s earnings come across.
And it’s safe to say it’s not gone down too well.
One fan reacted with shock:
“Jesus Christ… he would like our top earner”
While another pointed out that Arsenal already have better value for money in their own squad.
“300k for this overrated defender? Saliba and Gabriel are the best defenders in the world, and Arsenal don’t give them this salary, why!”
With another fan suggesting that the wages for Guehi compared to Gabriel are crazy.
“No way he’d get double the salary of Gabriel here. No wonder all the clubs backed out even at that price.”

Going along the current Arsenal squad line, one fan suggested Gabriel and Saliba might be worth triple that.
“That is quite high for Guehi, he is a good defender but not in the elite category, wondered what they will pay Saliba or Gabriel if they were to in their dreams signed them. Me think £1m a week!”
With another claiming Guehi upped his asks to simply get the move to City ahead of Arsenal.
“No way would we give him that, he is not as defensive good as Saliba and not as potent attacking wise as Gabriel. Has he upped his price to join Cheaty?”

Arsenal’s top earners compared to Marc Guehi
It’s interesting to note that Guehi is getting a huge wage but that is the position he has found himself in given his contract situation.
As noted above, it would put him right at the top of Arsenal’s list of top earners, with only Bukayo Saka on that amount.
| Arsenal Player | Amount per week (£) |
| Bukayo Saka | 300,000 |
| Kai Havertz | 280,000 |
| Gabriel Jesus | 265,000 |
| William Saliba | 250,000 |
| Martin Odegaard | 240,000 |
| Declan Rice | 240,000 |
Plenty of players at The Emirates are over the £200k-a-week mark but most of those are attackers who make a big difference, barring William Saliba.
Of course, if City win the title, they’ll call it money well spent. But if not, Guehi might end up just being another defender at a club that already has plenty in that department when they’re all fit.
