Sky Sports has announced a major change that will affect any fan watching Arsenal vs Manchester City on Sunday with the support of the Gunners plus the Premier League.
Emirates Stadium will play host to a top-of-the-table clash this weekend as Arsenal bid to go above Manchester City. Just one point separates the title rivals through seven fixtures so far this season. Mikel Arteta’s team are also one of the two remaining unbeaten sides this term.
Arsenal have won five and drawn in two of their opening fixtures to trail Manchester City by one point. Wolves dealt Pep Guardiola’s club their first defeat of the campaign last Saturday. The Citizens had started their title defence with six straight wins but lost 2-1 at the Old Gold.
Sky Sports to trial a ‘Game Mode’ camera at Arsenal vs Manchester City
Sunday, then, may prove huge as Arsenal try to win their first Premier League title since the 2003/04 Invincibles season. Any win over Manchester City at Emirates Stadium will fuel the Gunners’ belief of going the distance. The Citizens have won their past 12 top-flight clashes.
The Etihad Stadium side have also not lost to the Gunners since December 2015, stretching their unbeaten run to 15. Now, Arteta will go in search of his first win over Guardiola as Sky Sports also unveils a first whilst Arsenal take on Manchester City with the Gunners’ support.
Sky Sports will trial an innovative new camera angle, dubbed ‘Game Mode’, at the Emirates on Sunday. It will track the play from side to side and stay in line with the game as it unfolds on the pitch. Sky and the Premier League hope it gives a greater appreciation of the match.
Arsenal and the Premier League have supported Sky Sports’ trial
Arsenal have supported Sky Sports with its trial of the ‘Game Mode’ gantry-level camera as they host Manchester City. The Premier League will also make the camera available to each domestic and international broadcast partner. So, the change will affect any fans watching.
The Premier League’s head of media operations and innovation, Rachael Nightingale, told The Athletic: “During this period of testing with Sky Sports and Arsenal, we hope ‘Game Mode’ will provide a new and exciting way to enjoy the action at home.”
“We’re very excited to see what ‘Game Mode’ can bring to the overall viewing experience for fans and believe it has great potential when it comes to in-game innovation,” Sky Sports director of production, Phil Marshall, added.
“We thank Arsenal and the Premier League for their support in testing this innovation.”
Sky Sports will broadcast the ‘Game Mode’ feed from Arsenal and Manchester City’s match on Sky Sports Football. Coverage will start at kick-off at 16:30 BST on Sunday with a normal stream available on Sky Sports Premier League. It is the first time Sky has used the camera.
Should the trial prove successful, the camera could be used for all 2023/24 Premier League games at Emirates Stadium. Manchester City are the fifth team to visit Arsenal this term for a top-flight fixture. Arteta’s team edged Nottingham Forest 2-1 and Manchester United 3-1.
