Michael Dawson feels Martin Odegaard is finally now showing his ‘magnificent’ best form with Arsenal again after the midfielder endured a slower start to his campaign.
The Gunners captain blew Dawson away last season as he led the Emirates Stadium natives’ pursuit of the Premier League title. But the Sky Sports pundit claims Odegaard took his time to grow into their challenge for the crown this term. Even though he had an influential start.
Odegaard opened the season with three goals and two assists across his first seven games. Yet the Norway skipper then went 13 top-flight matches with one goal and two assists from the start of October into February. A record Odegaard has bettered in his past two matches.

Martin Odegaard is back to the Arsenal captain’s ‘magnificent’ best
Arsenal thumped West Ham United 6-0 and Burnley 5-0 on the road in their last two games in the Premier League. Odegaard also had more than a hand in both results with the 55-cap playmaker producing two assists at London Stadium plus a goal and one assist at Turf Moor.
Odegaard found Leandro Trossard (45’+1) and Bukayo Saka (63’) to score at West Ham with Arsenal’s fourth and fifth efforts. The Drammen-born maestro was also the only player with more than 74 accurate passes (109) and led the game for key passes (7), plus touches (123).

Burnley then faced Odegaard at his best last Saturday as he ranked third overall for accurate passes (61) and produced a joint-match high three key balls. The former Real Madrid player further took 90 touches, behind defenders Gabriel Magalhaes (102) and William Saliba (94).
Michael Dawson ‘did not see’ the real Martin Odegaard this season
Dawson now believes Odegaard is back to playing at his ‘magnificent’ best ahead of Arsenal hosting Newcastle United on Saturday. The ex-Tottenham Hotspur captain feels he is back to playing at last season’s level, which yielded 15 goals and eight assists in 37 top-flight games.
“When you’ve got this man in form, which last year he was magnificent all season,” Dawson explained on Sky Sports News (24/2, 12:19). “I didn’t see it early on in the season. But we’re starting to see it… I just think Odegaard, when he’s ticking, he’s magnificent.”
