Arsenal legend Sol Campbell has snubbed Bukayo Saka from his combined XI between the current team and the Invincibles.

It comes as the Gunners look to make history of their own, writing a story for themselves over 20 years on from their last Premier League triumph.

While the story of The Invincibles will live on in history, Mikel Arteta has his side close to tasting a small bit of the success they managed.

With Arsenal back towards the top once again, plenty of comparisons have been drawn to the legends of years gone by and for good reason too.

Sol Campbell snubs Bukayo Saka for Robert Pires in the combined Arsenal current and Invincibles XI

It’s fair to say that the Arsenal Invincibles squad will go down in history as one of the best in the history of the club.

The current team have managed to rise from a mid-table slumber back to the very top, with the young stars and Hale End academy graduates landing plenty of comparisons to some of those legends.

Bukayo Saka’s impact in the side has been a particular bright spot, with his skill, pace and general output landing him some comparisons to the very best.

However, when it came to a place in the combined XI, Sol Campbell decided against picking the winger on the right.

Instead, he opted for Robert Pires, telling Sky Sports: “Oh my god. He [Pires] could shoot harder instep than anyone can shoot with their laces. Pires.”

In the end, Campbell picked a whole team featuring the Invincibles, with not a single current member of the squad making it into the team.

There are plenty of years left to come for those stars to cement their places among those ranks, but some trophies will be key in that process.

How Bukayo Saka and Robert Pires compare

Considering the legendary status of Robert Pires, and the current place in his career that Bukayo Saka finds himself at, the two are similar in terms of their statistics at Arsenal.

The duo have played over 250 matches for the Gunners, with eerily close goals and assist tallies racked up.

Saka has already managed to usurp Pires on assists for Arsenal, while the latter has the upper hand for goals scored.

It remains to be seen whether the winger could seal his place in the all-time greats list in years to come, still aged only 23.
