Arsenal legend Sol Campbell has revealed that two other former Gunners icons are the toughest opponents he has ever faced.

The centre-back is famously remembered for his transfer from Tottenham to Arsenal, which saw him loved by one half of North London and detested by the other.

With the Gunners, Sol Campbell went on to win two Premier League titles – which includes the famous Invincibles team – and three FA Cups.

His status as one of the best defenders in the world saw him capable of locking down opposition forwards during a time when there were plenty of world-class players coming up against Arsenal.

Campbell named two Arsenal legends as the toughest he ever faced though, from during his time coming up against the Gunners.

Sol Campbell reveals Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp as toughest opponents he has faced

Over the years, Campbell has come up against some of the very best that football has to offer when it comes to forwards.

However, for him, none of them can quite compare to coming up against the duo of Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp in their day.

The Arsenal duo were threatening enough on their own, but when they combined, it created a whole new problem.

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Campbell said when asked about the toughest opponent he has faced: “I think for me, the period with Thierry [Henry] and Dennis [Bergkamp] was hard work.

“Relentless. Quality players, clever how they linked in. Incredibly strong those two, run all day long and really, really skilful.”

The pair were certainly threatening for opposition defenders at any moment, with statistics that reflect their impact.

Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry statistics together at Arsenal

Arsenal pair Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry were a brutal pairing for the opposition, with pace and skill in abundance between the both of them.

They played over 200 matches together, picking up over two points per game and winning plenty of silverware along the way.

With Bergkamp playing off of Henry and Henry off of Bergkamp, there were moments when they could create dangerous chances regardless of the state of the game.

It’s for that reason both go down as Arsenal legends in their own right, as well as a pairing many will remember.
