Arsenal have missed Mikel Merino in recent months.

The Spaniard suffered a serious foot injury in January and had to undergo surgery. He has been out of action since, and the expectation at the time was that he would miss the remainder of this season.

There were also some suggestions in Spain that Merino could miss the World Cup because of how serious his injury is.

However, a new update now says otherwise.

Arsenal star Mikel Merino could be back running in two weeks

Mikel Merino has never been a guaranteed starter at Arsenal, but he is still one of the most important players in the squad.

The former Real Sociedad man is a very intelligent footballer. He is good on the ball, has the ability to control the tempo of the game, and, as we all surprisingly saw, he’s not a bad striker either.

Arsenal could’ve done with Merino over the last few months, but there may be a small chance that he could feature for them before the season ends.

That’s because AS have claimed that the Spaniard was seen in training on Friday without any protective boot or crutches.

The Spanish outlet revealed that Merino is expected to start running in two to three weeks, which means he will be fit and ready for the World Cup.

AS don’t mention anything about his availability for Arsenal this season, but he could get some minutes late in the campaign.

The final Premier League game of the season is still a month away, while the Champions League final, should Arsenal get there, is a week after that.

So, if Merino starts running in two weeks and is back in training a week or so later, he could feature for the Gunners before the season ends. That would be great to see.

Mikel Merino could be Arsenal’s difference maker if they reach the Champions League final

Merino possesses a unique skillset that not many other Arsenal players have.

The Spaniard’s ability to play anywhere in midfield and also in attack makes him a great option to have, and his aerial ability is absolutely incredible as well.

Those traits become invaluable, especially in tight games like the Champions League final.

If Arsenal get past Atletico Madrid and make it to the final, we’re sure Mikel Arteta will hope to have Merino as an option on the bench.

We think the midfielder could be a game-changer in such a game.
