Arsenal are preparing for a huge summer transfer window ahead of them by appointing a new sporting director.
Arsenal appointed Andrea Berta to replace Edu Gaspar, who departed the club back in 2024 before Jason Ayto took interim charge in the role.
Mikel Arteta is excited to work with Berta and the duo will be in charge of formulating an Arsenal squad ready to challenge for the Premier League and Champions League next season.
Berta is thrilled to join Arsenal and Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has revealed the real reason that the Gunners chose to pursue Berta ahead of other targets.

Guillem Balague reveals real reason Arsenal appointed Andrea Berta
Speaking to TNT Sports on their pre match coverage ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Everton, Ballague revealed the main attraction for Arsenal in their pursuit of Berta.
Ballague stated: “They went for him because he wants to create alongside Mikel Arteta a winning culture. This is a guy that has done very well in the context of Real Madrid and Barcelona, they have more money,
“Yet he managed to get to that extra bit that Arsenal doesn’t seem to get to, so he has been described by one of the decision makers, one of the ones that decided to bring him in that he’s experienced, hard-working and he’s very brave.”
The Spaniard went on to explain that Berta is going to have to use all of his creativity in order to get Arsenal to where they want to be.
Ballague explained: “Basically he’s going to have to get creative as well, Arsenal are not here with the intention of spending two hundred, three hundred million, they just want to be creative with what they’ve got and what they need.”
Arsenal fans won’t hear much from Berta
Gunners fans may not hear a lot from their sporting director over the coming years as Ballague revealed that Berta likes to do his work in the background away from the spotlight.
Ballague said: “He worked alongside Diego Simeone in a very discreet way, he doesn’t give interviews, doesn’t give press conferences, we don’t know personally much about him.”

Berta was present to witness Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Everton at Goodison Park and will already be plotting areas where he wants to help strengthen his new side.
The hard work will start now for the Italian and from Ballague’s words, Arsenal fans can expect an experienced and bold approach from the new man.
