Martin Keown is not just an Arsenal legend, but he’s a big fan of the club as well.

The Englishman played 449 games for the Gunners back in the day and helped them win 10 trophies, including three Premier League titles.

Now a pundit, Keown is a popular voice among Arsenal fans, and he often provides very balanced insight about his old club.

However, one thing he said recently led to a lot of laughter.

Arsenal secured an impressive 2-0 victory over Athletic Club in Bilbao.

San Mames is never an easy ground to go to, and the home fans created a fantastic atmosphere to welcome the return of Champions League football.

Athletic made it difficult for Arsenal, and all signs pointed towards a draw. However, Mikel Arteta’s substitutions – Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli – changed the game.

Martin Keown, who knows a thing or two about winning difficult games, was really impressed by his old side’s performance on Tuesday.

When Laura Woods asked after the game who he thought were the favourites to win the Champions League this season, Keown replied on TNT Sports: “Well, I think Arsenal have made a little bit of a statement tonight.”

Former Liverpool and Real Madrid star Steve McManaman burst out laughing.

“Just because you two are Arsenal fans, behave yourselves! I mean, come on,” he said.

Arsenal have one big advantage in the Champions League

Winning the Champions League is among the most difficult things to do in football.

The Gunners are still searching for their first title, and Arteta’s men came extremely close last season. They reached the semi-finals and were knocked out by the eventual winners.

The dream is to go two steps further this season, and Arsenal’s defence gives them a major chance to go all the way in the Champions League.
